Dreams Surpassed is an epic novel about the lives of two men. Graham Bennington begins his life in Philadelphia and dreams of creating the perfect sailboat. He takes his concepts to the busy Port of Los Angeles to fulfil his dream. When his wife dies, he becomes a single parent to his daughter, Katia. Edward Oxford lives in Southampton, England and his dream is to create the highest quality and most prosperous marine hardware conglomerate. He has three sons who, despite the divorce of their parents, remain more important to Edward than even his business. His oldest son, Thomas, is a boring and staid English professor. His middle son, Kevin, is an international sailboat racer who will never settle down. His youngest son, Bryan, is Edward’s true pride. Bryan attains his PhD from Cambridge and takes Oxford Rigging to new heights, surpassing Edwards dreams. Katia and Bryan met briefly in junior high school and then briefly just before entering college; she to U.C.L.A., he to Cambridge. The both prosper and grow, working with their fathers, but always dream of the other; ships passing in the night, never in one port long enough to form a relationship. Dreams Surpassed is an emotional roller-coaster. From the heart-wrenching beauty of the sea, to the torment the sea can impart, to finding and losing love, to solving the issues that threaten the marine industry and overcoming those issues.
